Breathe-3 promotes and tests possibilities for co-operations between artists living in different locations and investigates how today’s technique with fast communications influences and develops artistic practice. Any individual artist can suggest a complete concept including the persons to collaborate with or suggest the committee of Breathe-3 suitable persons, from the project’s existing, international contact net. Co-operations are awarded where geographical, cultural, linguistic and artistic boundaries are crossed: pictorial arts, film, composers, writers, choreographs etc.
The committee of Breathe-3 decides on the selection so that different forms of co-operation come to be realized. In some works an individual artist’s contribution can become part of a collective whole, while more free-moving parts can build up a work in another case. The artist who starts a project must let somebody else take over in an independent manner.
In the project the artistic processes are as important as the final result. The applicant is responsible, takes on the task of saving communication and documents the process that precedes the work and also let all communication be continuously published on the homepage of Breathe-3.
For artists taking part in Breathe-3 there will be an application form. All artists who has been involved in the two first Breathe projects will, in the beginning of the year 2002, get an invitation to send proposals for participation in the art project Breathe-3. The project finances fees, material and documentation of working processes and the presentation of about seven works of art. The project finishes with a public presentation in the autumn 2002 in Göteborg,
